MacKenzie Downing Set to Compete at Commonwealth Games

UVPCS swimmer MacKenzie Downing is set to compete as part of the 25-member Canadian team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. Prior to the Games, the Canadian team held a staging camp in Singapore. While there, MacKenzie who is an avid Formula 1 racing fan, took the time to attend a Formula 1 Grand Prix event that was being held in Singapore at the same time. Here is an interview with MacKenzie about her Formula 1 experience:

Dixon Enjoys Busy and Rewarding Month

UVPCS swimmer Stephanie Dixon always has an extremely busy schedule. This past month was no different. On September 12th, Stephanie was highlighted in the Victoria Times Colonist new feature series entitled ‘My Victoria’. Her story appears below. On September 25th, at the Swim BC Annual Meeting held in Richmond, Stephanie won Female Para-Swimmer of the Year. Stephanie closed the month as the keynote speaker at this year’s Annual Vikes Championship Breakfast fundraiser. She is an alumnus of the UVic swim team and 2005 UVic Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year.

UVPCS Recognized at SwimBC AGM

Pacific Coast Swimming swimmers and coaches garnered several Provincial awards for the 2009-2010 swim season during the Swim BC Annual Meeting held in Richmond on September 25, 2010. Stephanie Dixon won Female Para-Swimmer of the Year and Richard Weinberger took Open Water Swimmer of the Year. The new Swim BC Board of Directors was also announced and former PCSPA President Dean Crawford was once again named President.

Seven UVPCS Swimmers Named to 2010 Provincial Prospects and Youth/Junior Teams

Swim BC recently announced its Fall 2010 Prospects and Youth/Junior teams. Seven UVPCS swimmers made the list:

Youth/Junior Team Members: Salin Bol, Stefanie Schmidt and Zac Parkes.

Prospects Team Members: Lauren McMillan, Caileigh Filmer, Rosie Moulton and Ryan Howe.

Results from Junior Pan Pacs

Zac Parkes finished off his season in fine form at his first International Meet with a seventh in the 10K Open Water swim. He was representing Canada at the Junior Pan Pac's held in Kehei, Hawaii. Zac also improved his personal best times in the 200, 400, and 1500 meter freestyle. Congratulations Zac!

Victoria’s Richard Weinberger Wins Open Water Bronze at Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

IRVINE, California

Richard Weinberger of Victoria took another giant step in his open water swimming career on Sunday winning the bronze medal in the men’s open water 10 kilometer race to conclude the Pan Pacific swimming championships.

Chip Peterson led the U.S., to a 1-2 finish in one hour and 56 minutes and 00. 02 seconds, Frances Crippen was second in 1:56:02.744 and Weinberger followed in 1:56:02.984.
