CALGARY - Ryan Cochrane was named the CIS male swimmer of the year and CIS rookie of the year on Saturday following competition on the final day of the 2011 CIS swimming championships at the University of Calgary Aquatic Centre.
UVic star back from health troubles and ready to make run at Olympics
When Nick Sinclair splashes into the University of Calgary Aquatic Centre at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport swimming championships, he will be wondering what he could have done had it been a normal year.
For the 19-year-old from the University of Victoria, it has been anything but normal for him.
UVic-PCS has swum to gold on the third day of the 2011 Speedo Western Canadian Championships with Stefanie Schmidt taking 1st place in the Girls 15&U 200BK. "Stefanie swam a very good race taking over the lead with 45m to go and accelerating to the gold" says coach Rod.

While our junior swimmers are competing in Chilliwack, UVic-PCS swimmer MacKenzie Downing competed for Canada at the New South Wales State Open Championships being held this week at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre in Sydney, Australia.
She competed against some of the world’s best and finished 2nd in the 200 Butterfly in 2:09.57 (LC), the 2nd fastest time swum in the world so far this year (Swim News rankings). She was 5th in the 100 Butterfly in a time of 1:00.25(LC).
After the first day of competition at the 2011 AA's Short Course Championships, PCS has found the podium in 3 events and many of the swimmers are setting new personal bests and making new time standards!
VANCOUVER - Three more swimmers from the University of Victoria Vikes achieved the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) standard as the Vikes women placed third, edging out Alberta by 13 points, and the Vikes men fourth at the 2011 Canada West swimming championships at the UBC Aquatic Centre in Vancouver.
