The annual NRST Spring Sprint yielded lots of best times and top-8 performances from UVPCS swimmers!
Earning first place ribbons were Lauren Crisp, Kristopher Neilson, Jade Simpas and Heidi Ullrich.
Top-3 finalists were Finn Barker, Emma Carter, Michael De Clare, Shaun Gill, Rory Hills, Justin Howe, Anna Letkeman, Ann MacIntosh, Stephen Olmos, Jackson Sinclair, Rebecca Thompson, Brenden Ward and Tabitha Zammit.
Strong international competition at the Mel Zajac Invitiational featured UVPCS swimmers placing in top-8 and top-16 positions. Leading the pack, MacKenzie Downing finished first in the 200 Butterfly event with a second place finish in the 100 Butterfly. She was followed closely by Nicholas Sinclair who placed second in the 200 Backstroke event and 6th in the 400 Freestyle; Ian Mattock who finished in the top 8 in the 200 IM; and Zac Parkes who did the same in the 1500 Freestyle. .

This year’s Annual 14 & Under Wavemaker Invitational Meet featured over 160 swimmers from across Vancouver Island. Everyone had a great time underneath the palm trees and bouncing beach balls (though the beach balls were a bit the worse for wear). Officials set a fine standard for beach wear and competitors worked hard for a chance to win the special ‘horse’ ribbons that are unique to this meet.
Richard Weineberger came 6th in a tough International field of 20 swimmers in the 15 km Sumidero Canyon race in Mexico today. He swam a great race staying with the more experienced lead pack the whole wayand finishing just 10 seconds out of third --- and only 40 seconds behind the winner, three-time World Champion medallist Petar Stoychev.
Congratulations to Rosie Moulton, Stefanie Schmidt, Salin Bol, and Caileigh Filmer for setting a new provincial record in the 13-14 Girls 4x200 F.R. with a time of 8:37.08.
