UVic-PCS 2012 Olympic Bronze medallist, Richard Weinberger, will be competing as part of the Canadian team, at the 15th FINA World Championships swimming in Barcelona, Spain. This year`s World Aquatics Championships run from July 19th-August 4th. Richard will be swimming the 10km Open Water event on July 23rd and the 25km Open Water event on July 27th. Pool events take place from July 28th-August 3rd.
UVic-PCS swimmer, Aimeson King (10K Open Water), is among the swimmers representing Canada at the 25th World University (FISU) Games in Kazan, Russia. The Summer Universiade is the second largest multisport event in the world, trailing only the Olympics. Close to 9,000 athletes from over 150 countries are competing at the 2013 Games. The swimming competition is running from July 10th-17th. Aimeson will swim his 10K event on the last day of competition – Wednesday, July 17th.
UVPCS finished the third day in 6th spot on our weakest day point score wise...the battle for the top three spots is tight and changes every event! A great night of racing ensued..
800 Free Vicky Mock took silver and Hanna Carter came 5th in the girls 15&Over.
The second day here at UBC shaped up to be just as exciting as the first evening. After taking most of the senior national athletes home after day one the team swam very well on day two and ended just 45 points out of top spot behind Vancouver Pacific.
The evening began with the 50 Free - 11 yr old Jessica Luo finished with a bronze and a PB. In the 13 yr girls Molly Gowans took gold.
Michael Schmidt came through with his best to take fifth spot in the 11 and U boys.
It was a big night for the swimmers at the AAA`s at UBC today. The meet is host of over 550 swimmers from across the province and is being hosted at the UBC aquatic center with both the indoor and outdoor pools being used for the heats with the finals moving indoors at night.
The Pacific Coast Swimmers took off at night indoors once the finals began we had some very good swims...
