Day 5 of Olympic Trials

Olympic Trials continued today with three races and one personal best time for our swimmers.

Ian Mattock continued with his impressive best time streak today in the 100 Butterfly, clocking in at 57:54.

After two tiring swims each yesterday, Nicholas Sinclair and Rachael Newman performed a little off in their events today.  Sinclair swam the 200 Backstroke in a time of 2:07.40, while Newman competed in the 100 Freestyle, with 1:02.14.

Strong Showings from Schmidt and Newman on Day 4 of Olympic Trials

Olympic Trials continued today with impressive swims from both Stefanie Schmidt and Rachael Newman.

Newman competed in her best event, the 200 Butterfly, and scored a best time in the morning with 2:17.73.  Her morning time qualified her for the consolation final, where she was a bit slower, but still managed to stay under her previous best time, gliding to 8th place in the B final, with a time of 2:17.82.

Olympic Trials Day 3

Day 3 of Olympic Trials saw Nicholas Sinclair competing in his second A final of the meet, in the 400 Freestyle.  In the morning, Nicholas was in a heat that advanced 5 of the 8 evening swimmers into the final.  With Ryan Cochrane already pre-qualified for the Olympics in this event, the 2nd place person would have had to go 3:48.92 or better to gain a berth on the Olympic team, a big stretch for anyone else in the field.

Day 2 of Olympic Trials

Olympic Trials continued in Montreal today, with two of our swimmers competing in the day’s events.

Stefanie Schmidt turned out another strong performance in her 100 Backstroke, again just a few tenths over her best time with 1:06.48, which bodes well for her performance in the 200 Backstroke, Schmidt’s best event, on Day 6.

Ian Mattock competed in the 200 Butterfly, scoring a best long course time with 2:08.50.

2012 AAA Snapshot from Coach Rod

PCS Finished 12th in the point rankings - while not our best ranking we did score very close to the maximum we could have netted based on our potential before the meet began. So it was an extremely good, consistent performance across the meet. We did succeed in getting just about every swimmer into finals that had a realistic chance of doing so. The group of 24 competitors were very supportive of each other.
