With less than three weeks until he competes in the London Olympics, Richard Weinberger added yet another gold medal swim to his resume today in Quebec.
Competing in the Roberval 10km, Weinberger was able to control the field for the back 3.5km and captured the win by two seconds over Arthur Frayler of the USA.
We had 22 athletes represent Vancouver Island for swimming in the 2012 BC Summer Games in Surrey. Of those athletes, fellow PCS teammates Anna Letkeman and Justin Howe were chosen to represent “Team 6.”
Day 1: Friday, July 20 It was a close day at the pool with Vancouver Island and Vancouver-Squamish neck and neck for first place. Team 6 concludes the preliminaries session with 13 finalists and 18 finals swims. We finish the day with 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 3 bronzes.
Nationals took place last week in Edmonton with three UVPCS swimmers taking part in the competition. Rachael Newman was joined by first-time National attendees Jon McKay and Ryan Howe.
15 swimmers made the annual trek to the Moses Lake Sizzling Summer Invitational this past weekend. When we arrived on Friday afternoon the temperature was already 34 degrees and hotter on the pavement! Swimmers were excited to hit the cold pool and swam a number of personal best times over the weekend and some strong results against the American and Canadian teams participating. Most of the PCS swimmers in attendance had never been to an outdoor meet before so it was a great learning experience to have to perform in the heat and sun.
Starting today, UVic-PCS is at the 2012 BC AAA LC Championships in Richmond, BC. Check out the website and Facebook for the latest results and Tweets from the Meet.
Good Luck and Fast Swimming to all the athletes and coaches!
