PCS sent fifteen 10 and Under swimmers to Comox for the 10 & Under Championships this weekend. After a day full of best times and new records set by PCS swimmers, they still weren’t done! The PCS squad headed into the second day, with 8 swimmers winning Aggregate Awards (an award going to the top five swimmers in each age category 7 and Under, 8, 9, and 10), both male and female who had the most points over 8 individual events.
After 5 of the swimmers in his group were named to BC's Canada Games Team, Rod has also been appointed to the team! PCS will be out in force this summer, competing and coaching with Canada's best! Go Bolts⚡️⚡️
There were 90 PCS finals swims last night on day 2 of Wavemaker, up from 87 on Friday night! Highlight of the night: Heidi Henry qualified for AAA's in the 200 Fly! Congrats to all the swimmers and coaches!
Friday night, day one at our annual Wavemaker meet, PCS had tonight 87 finals swims! When the club started 15 years ago, there were 65 total swimmers in the club, we have come a long way!
Nolan Crisp cleaned up one of the oldest club records in the 1500. 21:51.64 erasing Michael Gouldings 10 & Under record from 2003. He also swam one of the fastest 10 & Under 200 Backs in Canadian history 2:36.94.
Congratulations to Jessica Luo, Sophie Lorette, Hana Edwards, Michael Schmidt and Keir Ogilvie for being selected to BC's Canada Games Team. PCS athletes made up the largest group of all teams and will compete in August in Winnipeg. Go Bolts⚡️⚡️
Even with two-time Olympic-medallist Ryan Cochrane of Victoria recently retired, the Island has placed six swimmers on Canada’s 32-member team for the 2017 world aquatics championships in July at Budapest.
The finals of Day 4 saw PCS grab a gold medal, a bronze, 3 further A-final spots and some B-final finishes. Eric Hedlin won the 1500 Freestyle in a time of 15:08.35, 27 seconds ahead of second place. Jon McKay grabbed the 1500 bronze in a time of 15:38.39 and Richard Weinberger finished 8th in a time of 15:47.94. Chris Deegan, swimming in priliminaries, finished 12th overall after dropping 13 seconds, in a time of 16:05.33.
On Day 3, PCS had 2 A-Finalists in the 400 Freestyle. Kaity Gervais, after dropping 1.6 seconds in prelims to qualify 7th in a time of 4:21.23, finished in 8th in another best time of 4:21.04. Jon McKay wasn't able to duplicate his priminary time at night, qualifying 6th in the morning in 3:59.85 before finishing 8th in 4:01.38.
Day 2 of World Championship Trials saw a fairly quiet day for PCS. The events swum - 100 Free, 100 Breast, 400 IM and 50 Back.
In the 100 Free, Jessica Luo finished in 26th overall in a time of 58.43, and was the only 15 year old in the event.
Sophie Tarrant just missed out on a B-Final in the 100 breast, finishing in 19th place in a time of 1:13.09. On the men's side, Michael Schmidt also barely missed out on swimming at night, finishing 18th in a best time of 1:07.14.
On an exciting night for Canadian Swimming including Kylie Masse's near World Record in the 100 Backstroke, PCS had some great performances to get excited about.
