UVPCS had another hot weekend in Surrey at the BC Open.
Anthony Gutierrez pounded out a 20 second PB over 1500m to make the Age group standard for the upcoming World Trials. He went under the standard by a 'crowd pleasing' 1 second. His time of 17:02 sliced just shy of 4 seconds off the club record set in 2005 by Craig Dagnall.
The 2017 Swim BC Short Course Provincial Championships concluded last night with over 500 athletes competing for for four days at Commonwealth Place. PCS came a close 2nd! But all of the highlights came from the PCS bench. Far and away UVPCS was the loudest most supportive team on deck who stuck to their teammates right to the last event. Pacific Coast Swimming(PCS) won the girls title again making that 6 Championships in a row while the boys showed at lot of improvement from last summer pulling to within 150 points of boys top team, HYACK, from LMR.
VICTORIA - Eric Hedlin broke a school record on the way to winning a gold medal in the 400-metre freestyle at the U SPORTS national swimming championship in Sherbrooke, Quebec on Saturday.
Day 1 of a large (500+ swimmers) Short Course AA’s in Chilliwack was off to a quick start for PCS swimmers. Jane Maycock swam a speedy 800m FR with a time of 9:46.62, taking two seconds off of her best time to make her first AAA. The girl’s 14&O 4x50 FR Relay with Lia Lancaster, Maycock, Mackenzie Mueller and Fionnuala McKenna battled it out to take first place in a time of 1:53.12. We are looking forward to more AAAs and medals on Day 2.

Day 2 of the meet started off with the 200 Freestyle in the 9-10 age group, where Adelina Benn came 2nd with a time of 3:12.83, followed by Mello Di in 6th with a best time of 3:26.71. On the boy’s side, with a time of 2:50.40 Arran Robertson came 1st in the 11-12 age group. Next up was the 200 Backstroke, where we had a second place finished in the 11-12 age group: Charlotte Alexander for the girls, and Arran Robertson for the boys.
Eric Hedlin and Stephanie Horner competed in the 5km Open Water Time Trial yesterday in Southern Australia. Eric won the Men's event in a time of 54:18.90, almost a minute ahead of second place swimmer Jack McLoughlin in 55:12.60. Jack is an Australian Olympian in the pool, and swam the 1500 in a time of 14:48 in Rio.
Stephanie Horner completed her race in a time of 1:01:24.50, which was good for 7th place in the Women's event.
