Day six of competition at the Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials was packed with action, as the final berths to the Olympic Games were on the line, as well as a number of Junior National teams being selected at the conclusion of the meet. 

Third year Vike Jon McKay swam to a fifth place finish in the Men’s 1500 Freestyle in a time of 15:35.23.  The swim, which didn’t have a best time posted by any of the top five competitors, saw only one Canadian make the Olympic Qualification Standard. 

Distance freestylers Kaitlin Gervais and Jon McKay highlighted day five at the Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials in Toronto, which saw five UVic-Pacific Coast Swimming athletes hit the water. 

Gervais swam in the Women’s 800 Freestyle A Final on Saturday night, placing tenth, just over her personal best that she swam in the preliminaries session. 

Pacific Coast Swimming continued their distance freestyle roll on day four of competition at the Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials in Toronto.  Second year Vike Kaitlin Gervais swam a lifetime best of 9:00.34 in the preliminaries of the women’s 800 metre freestyle, on her way to qualifying for the A flight.  Her time, a personal best by four seconds, puts her in ninth position for Saturday night’s final. 

PCS coached, Vikes Alum, and two time Olympian Stephanie Horner swam a very important 10km race in Fort Myers today.  The field was packed with great Open Water swimmers from around the world, but Stephanie's main goal remained clear: finish as one of the top two Canadian's in the race.  Three Canadian swimmers were invited to compete, and the top two would be chosen to compete in Portugal with a chance to qualify for the Olympics.

We would like to congratulate our own Molly Gowans for winning one of the six Victor Davis Memorial Awards given out this year.  This award is given to some of Canada's top young swimmers, and comes with some funding to help continue their training, education, and pursuit of excellence at the international level of competition.

UVic-PCS continued their roll on day two of the Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials with some great swims from some of the team’s youngest members.  “The first timers (at Canadian Olympic Trials) learned a lot and are looking forward to gaining more experience as the week progresses,” said Pacific Coast Swimming Director of Athlete Development Rod Barratt.  “It has been a very exciting beginning to the meet with so many Canadian records falling over the first two days.  The energy in the building is amazing, and the Pan Am Games Aquatic Centre is a world class facility.” 

Women’s 400 Free

Kaitlin Gervais continued her great season with a best time in the 400 freestyle preliminaries.  Her posting of 4:22.89 was good enough to position her in the B Final of the event.  Gervais swam to a finals time of 4:23.82, placing her 18^th overall in a very fast women’s 400 free field.
