Pacific Coast Swimming had 8 athletes competing at the 2023 Speedo Canadian Swimming Championsips this past week in Toronto. The 6 day long competition started on Tuesday, August 1st running through until August 6th. On Tuesday, Rubin Lee qualified 10th in the console final for the mens 14-15 100m backstroke, placing 20th overall. Sophie Wood swam a personal best in the para 400m freestyle in the prelims session. The following day, Tracy Zhao placed 5th in the 13-14 100m breaststroke A final with a personal best time of 1:16.00. Follow that swim, the boys 4x100m freestyle relay (Kieran Feenstra, Eason Zhou, Rubin Lee, Alex Camaraire placed 4th in finals. Next up, Sophie Wood placed 5th in the para 100m breaststroke during finals just over her best time. Wednesday started off strong with Alex swimming a best time in 100m freestyle dropping his time down to 54.05, qualifying for the A final in 7th. At finals, Alex shaved an additional hundreth off his morning swim for a final time of 54.04 and placed 7th overall. Rubin Lee swam his way into the 200m backstroke console final to place 7th in the B-final. In additon to 100m freestyle, Alex swam his 1500m freestyle shaving off a couple seconds from his previous time. Sophie Wood placed 1st in the para 100m freestyle just over her best time in finals, claiming PCS's first medal of the meet. Thursday started off with 50m freestyle where Sophie Wood swimming a best time in the para 50m freestyle of 30.96, and dropping more time at finals for a final time of 30.62, and placing 3rd to claim bronze that evening. Rubin Lee swam a best time in 50m freestyle during prelims for a final time of 25.8. Following the 50m freestyle was 50m breaststroke where Tracy Zhao qualified 4th going into finals. At night, Tracy swam a best time of 34.22, lowering her current club record and claiming a bronze medal in the event. Eason & Kieran both swam best times in prelims of 50m breaststroke, placing 11th & 12th respectively. During finals, the boy's 4x200m freestyle relay (Kieran, Eason, Rubin & Alex) placed 4th and were 2 tenths off the current club record. Day 5 started off with Sophie Wood swimming a best time in 100m butterfly and finishing 6th in finals. Bridget Rupert swam a best time in 100m butterfly in the morning, and placed 9th in the 15-17 B-final at night. Rubin swam his first 800m freestyle in the morning, along with Alex who placed 17th overall in the event. Our sixth and final day started with 200m breatstroke where both Maelle Sanborn (8th) and Trazy Zhao (12th) qualified for finals during prelims. Maelle swam her first A final of the meet on Sunday, and moved up to place 7th overall and obtain a new best time of 2:46.3. Sophie Wood swam a best time in the para 100m backstroke during prelims and shaved an additional second off her time during finals to place 6th overall. Alex swam a best time in 200m freestyle during prelims, and qualified for the B-final where he broke the 2-minute mark and placed 2nd in the console final. To finish off the competition, the boys 4x100m medley relay all right on their best times and finished 6th. Congratulations to all the athetes who competed and for all the successes
