Day One Finals Summary
UVPCS Golden and in record form.
On the first day of competition the UVPCS Age Nationals squad were running hot.
Jessica Lou - in her first time at this level qualified 7th in prelims and maintained her position in finals netting PB's in each effort. She finished in 1:08.8
On the boys side Lucas Tyler cruised to his best time and a 6th spot in 57.8, setting a 15-17 Boys club record in teh process (Sinclair 58.96 '07
Next up was the 200m Backstroke.
Lauren Crisp left nothing to the imagination leading from start to finish. Her time of 2:16..8 took the gold medals and set a BC Provincial Record that has stood since 1991 (Weckend 2:19.1). Teammate Molly Gowans was just off the podium in her best at 2:19.5 in fourth place.
50m Breaststroke followed and featured Jordan Andrusak for UVPCS. Her time of 34.3 was also just off the podium in fourth place.
in the final event of the evening, the 1500m Freestyle UVPCS was golden. Eden Kormendy captured her first national championship slashing 40 plus seconds from her best and taking the gold in 18:10. Kormendy swam her race in the preliminaries and in a rare occurence her time was faster than all the Canadian 13yr olds on the day in the finals.
Teammate Molly Gowans, competing after five days under the weather, captured the gold in run away fashion in 17:16.
The club is in 10th place in the combined scoring and fourth on the girls side.
