10& under Island Regional Championships

The VIR region held its 10 & Under Championships in Duncan with 60 qualified swimmers in the meet. Uvic-Pacific Coast Swimming had 18 swimmers participate in the meet, taking place in two sessions with relays involved in both. 

In the morning, the first session started off with the 200m Individual Medley which Sophia Saska took the Gold medal. Ada Chen actually won the event but was disqualified, which moved Katie McLaren up from 4th to snag the bronze. Owen Schroeder swam to a Silver medal in the boys 200m Individual Medley. Next up was the 100m freestyle where again Sophia and Ada raced hard for a first and second place finsh. On the boy's side, Owen snuck in another 3rd place finish. Breastroke was up next and Katie McLaren showed that she was up to the challenge of winning the Breastroke events with a win in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:41.38 outouching Ada by .48. Averie Hill slipped in to third for her first medal of the meet. Nice Sweep Girls! 
Elodie Chernenkoff picked up her first medal of the meet with a silver in the 50m biutterfly. Juliana Roper also got her first medal with a Bronze finish.
The last event of the a.m. session was the 4x50m freestyle relay. On the girls side Uvic-Pacific Coast Swimming placed first (Gold for Sophia, Elodie, Katie, Adair Nadeau) & third (Thea Picardi, Averie, Juliana, Lucia White). 

In the afternoon, session two started up after a break where the swimmers were treated to a movie by the host club Duncan Stingrays. 
This session started off with the 4x50m medley relay where our top girls were golden. Sophia, Katie, Ada, and Adair Nadeau won by over 10 seconds!
The first individual event was another head to head battle between Ada and Sophia where Ada came out on top in the 100m butterfly. Owen then finished with a Silver medal in the boys 100m fly.
Next up was the 50 Free where Sophia won with a personal best of 34.79. Derek Francois finally got his first medal after a number of fourth place finishes to snag a bronze in 50m freestyle.
The 100m backstroke was also a neck and neck battle for Ada and Sophia. Ada coming out on top by .78 Owen got another Bronze medal on the boys side. 
50m breaststroke was another chance for Katie McLaren to shine in her favourite stroke. Dropping over 5 seconds to a 46.71 and winning the event. 
The 200m freestyle was a great race with Sophia leading the race for 199.99 meters just getting out touched by Ada who even split the 2:46.89 swim. Winning by the narrowest of margins..  .03 of a second! Owen again came in for Bronze, swimming in an earlier heat. 
The meet finished off the 4x50m Mixed medley relay Uvic-PCS came in second. 

Congrats to all of the UVPCS swimmers who made the trip up Island to participate!! Next up for these swimmers will be another one day meet in Duncan June 26th, then Moses Lake outdoor fun meet July 8-10th, finishing off the season with the PCS hosted Mid Summer madness meet at SCP July 23/24th.
