2021-2022

Congratulations to former UVPCS swimmer Daniel Damian competed at the 2022 Canada Summer games as a triathlete. Damian swam with Pacific Coast Swimming for many years, with his family still actively involved with the club. Daniel's team of 4 in the mixed relay defended their gold title in the event. Damian also finished second in both of his individual events in the Niagara region to take home 3 medals from the 2022 Canada Summer Games. 

The timed Sunday finals in Prince George finished well for our atheltes partcipating at 2022 BC Summer games. Our day started off with the 4x50m freestyle relay - the girl's team (E. Saska, K. Owens, A. Neal, & T. Stehpen) placed 3rd but just over a second. The Zone 6 boy's team (A. Camaraire, Z. Millns, R. Lee, & C. Gonzales) placed 4th with the top 4 teams within 1.5. Following the relays came 200m IM where Saska placed 9th overall in the timed finals. Right behind her was Avery Neal, placing 10th and taking off 1.3 seconds.

Saturday at BC summer games harboured another sucessful day for our athletes. To start us off, Avery Neal swam a superb 200m freestyle, dropping 2 seconds off her personal best and placing 3rd overall. Shortly behind Avery was Elizabeth, who placed 5th, moving up one spot and dropping 2.3 seconds off her best. Following the girls was the boy's 200m freestyle, where Alex went for his 3rd gold in the freestyle events, dropping almost 3 full seconds off his best for a time of 2:02.72. In the same race was Rubin, who took off a significant 8.5 seconds off his best time in the freestyle.

Friday was the first day of racing in Prince George for our 15 athletes who were selected to go to BC summer games. Between heats and finals swims, this bunch managed to finish with roaring best times and top 8 finishes. 

Our fourth and final evening at UBC started off with Lucy Hallett in the 1500m freestyle. Hallett finished 6th overall in the 1500m swims to finish off her 2021-22 season. Following the distance races, 100m butterfly had Chernenkoff off again with a fantastic finals swim. Mila dropped 1.4 seconds off her best time to come 5th overall, moving up four places from 9th. Bridget was up next in the 15-16 age category, placing 9th in the final just over her best.

The third night of racing for UVPCS started off with 200m IM. Bridger Rupert placed 10th overall. Rupert dropped over 2 seconds during her prelims swim. Following Rupert was Jessic Hier. Jess was originally an alternate andf got slotted in to move up to 7th, dropping 2 seocnds off her already 3 second best time from prelims! Chernenkoff was up next in 50m butterfly placing 2nd to snag the silver in the 11-12 category. Mila went a best time of 30.99, her first time under 31 dropping 1.4 seconds overall. On the boys side, Noah Hicks placed 10th just over his best time.

Friday at the UBC aquatic centre was a sea of best times, qualifiers and podium swims for our Uvic-Pacific Coast Swimming team. Our night started off with Mila Chernenkoff sneaking in to the girl's 100m freestyle final. Mila placed 9th overall, with a 1.3 second time improvement from her entry time. The boys followed next, with Kieran Feenstra moving up from 11th to finish 5th in finals. Feenstra handly broke 58 seconds for the first time in his swim career for a time of 57.36. In the next age group up, Alonso placed 6th in his age group just over his best.

Our team of 30 swimmers started off at provincials today with 19 finals this evening at a our morning sessions. We started off the night with Mila Chernenkoff placing 5th in the girl's 11-12, dropping 2.5 seconds from her already best time in the morning, moving up from seeded 13th, to 5th in the finals. In the 13-14 categroy Riley Greenfield placed 8th in finals just over her best. Finally in the 15-17 category Bridget Rupert moved up a spot at finals to place 9th overall in the 100m backstroke just over her best time.

Saturday at Moses Lake started at 6:30am and finished at 9:30pm for a full day of racing, farmers market, waterparks & a team dinner to finish off the night!
