2016-2017

Well the forest fires burned around the interior of British Columbia today there was

smoke in the air and continued fast swimming in the Kamloops for the Pacific Coast

Swimming Team.

In the morning session some of our team swam some top 8 results in the 50

Backstroke. Lily Chen placed 1 st in the 12-13girls age group in a time of 32.12

Hana Edwards also won Gold in the 14-15girls in 31.24

Nolan Crisp also claimed 1 st place in the 11 & Under boys in his time of 34.77

The first event of the scoring events for the 2nd day of the meet was the 50 fly.

Sydney Meldrum came in 5th  in the 12-13 girls event in a time of 31.40 and Kali Lancaster placed 8th in a time of 32.13

In the 14-15 girls Jessica Luo place 2nd in 29.54 and Sophie Lorette came in 4th in 29.65 Grace MacDonald placed 6th 30.31

In the 16-18 girls Allison Ballantyne placed 5th in 29.38

On the 14-15 boys side Keir Ogilvie placed 3rd in 27.17 and Artem Kuklev placed 8th in 27.83

In the 16-18 boys Lucas Tyler came in 3rd 26.16

Jon McKay and coach Ryan left for a competition in Seattle as many PCS swimmers headed on a mission to Kamloops for AAA's.  Jon was looking to get in some more competition before the upcoming National Championships in August, and is using this weekend as that preparation.  The meet is at the beautiful Colman Pool, located in Lincoln Park in South Seattle.  The pool is a 10 minute walk from the park's parking lot, and is located mere feet from the scenic beach.  An outdoor meet is rare for Canadian swimmers, and venues don't get much more beautiful than this one.

After Day 1 Pacific Coast Swimming leads the team scoring by109 points.

In the 12-13 girls 50 Breaststroke:
Kali Lancaster tied for 1st  Place in a time of 35.59
Trinity Aragon Scriven took  the Bronze medal in a time of 36.82
Sydney Meldrum came in 4th 37.97

14-15 girls 50 Breaststroke had:
Hana Edwards win a silver medal in 35.89
Laura Rincon 6th 36.87

On our final day of AA Championships in Richmond, PCS had 10 finals swims. First up was the 11 and under 200 m breaststroke, which featured Adelina Benn, who earned herself a bronze medal, and Julia Hajash who finished in 7^th place. Next up was the 400 m freestyle. Evelyn Li was up first for the 11 and under girls starting out with a nice lead, but was caught in the end finishing 4^th. Next up was Maia Denis who swam in the 12-13 girls category. She went out strong, but was also caught up around the middle finally finishing 6^th.

On our 2nd day of AA's, our night started off with Maya Stevens who won a bronze medal in the 200m butterfly, showing off with some really nice technique and dropping 10 seconds off her best time. The next swimmer up in the finals was Mattias Melvie in the 100 backstroke who also made a personal best dropping 0.8 seconds coming in 6th and barely missing the AAA standard by half a second. Next up was the 50 m freestyle in which featured Fionnuala McKenna winning a silver medal with a best time narrowly missing out on first place.

20 Pacific Coast Swimming athletes are at Provincial AA Championships in Richmond this weekend where our distance swimmers started the weekend off with some hardware in the first morning session. Jane Maycock won herself the gold medal for a strong 14& Over girls 800 Freestyle performance clocking a new personal best of 9:49.12 while Maia Denis earned her first AAA standard and a silver medal in the 12-13 girls 800fr in a new personal best 10:28.92.
