2014-2015

Following up on their home-town win last summer, UVic-Pacific Coast Swimming won the 2015 SwimBC Short Course Age Group Championships, held March 5-7, at the Surrey Sports and Leisure Centre.

After the first day of the meet, UVPCS was just marginally ahead of a surprising Kisu Swim Club out of Penticton, holding a lead of under 40 points.  The second day saw UVPCS pull a little more ahead - just over 100 - but still within striking distance.

Day Two Finals - Another Successful day. 3 Gold 1 Silver 2 Bronze.

The second day of competition at UBC was regarded as slow on average but UVPCS was top notch. Molly Gowans lead out the evening with a gold medal 8:51 800 Fr for the win in the Open division. AnnaLetkeman(9:42.4), Lauren Crisp(9:45.4) and Rachel Sawchuk(9:49.63) were 10th, 11th and 14th in the 18 and U.

UBC - Day One 

The First day of the BC Senior Open at UBC was very strong for UVPCS. Gowans takes Silver. Crisp strikes Gold. Beland snatches bronze

400 Fr: Molly Gowans(4:20) took Silver in the the open category to Emily Overholt. In the 18 and U division Lauren Crisp finished 9th in a best(4:37.1). Rachel Sawchuk was right behind for 10th also a PB(4:37.4). Anna Letkeman had a best in the prelims and was just over at night to conclude in 16th.

200Fr 18 and U Nick Beland was 13th(2:04) and Aiden Longcroft-Harris 16th(2:05)

PCS successfully defended their AAA Championship win from last summer over the weekend in Surrey.  The team led the meet from start to finish, beating out second place KISU by over 500 points. There were multiple PCS swimmers on the podium this weekend, including many visits to the top from Dylan Kormendy, Michael Schmidt, Jessica Luo, Lucas Tyler, and Molly Gowans. 

Dylan Kormendy captured two more gold medals to help PCS to climb to the top of the team points score today.   Kathryn Lee earned her first AAA medal in a hard fought bronze to start the night off.  Jessica Luo ran away with a commanding victory in the 200 Fly to match her win in the 100 last night.  Michael Schmidt dropped a full two seconds today in his 50 Breast to move up from lane 7 to a Silver medal, and his 3rd (and qualifying) AGN time.   Congratulations Swimmers!

It was an exciting finals session on the first day of AAA Championships in Surrey.  Dylan Kormendy led the way with four gold medals, with many other PCS swimmers reaching the podium.  Michael Schmidt knocked off nearly 8 seconds to capture gold in the 200 Breast.  Jessica Luo out-touched the competition to win the 100 Fly, narrowly missing the provincial record by .04 seconds. 

Officially, PCS is sitting in first place after Day 1 with 714 points.  Go PCS!!

Swim-A-Thon 2015 kicks off this coming Sunday March 1st! Information, including Swim-A-Thon dates by group, will be delivered to your inbox over this coming week so that you can set up your fundraising accounts starting this weekend. Our club goal for this season is $25,000 and we will have 8 weeks to fundraise it.

Exciting new incentives and inter-group challenges will be part of the fun this year. Don't forget to use your social media platforms to spread the word and make this fundraiser a success!

Edmonton: PCS Top 8 teams. Women 6th. More gold final Day.

The final day of competition at Western Canadian Champs was another strong one for the Bolts. In spite of fatigue the team continued to show spirit and speed. The group remained impressive in their leadship and vocal support for those on the blocks and it showed on the score board.

The longer a competition goes on with heats, finals, triumph and disappointment, early mornings, late evenings and thousands of meters done in preparation for a competition, the more competitors get weeded out. 4-5-6 day meets and multiple competitions in succession are part of top level swimming. Only teams that come in healthy and fit and who stick together can show perserverance and presence of mind in the finals sessions of a major competition. Today was such a day for the PCS athletes who showed up enthusiastic and competitive this morning.

VICTORIA, B.C. University of Victoria Vikes swimmer Jon McKay was the lone Vike to get on the podium, wrapping up the three-day 2015 Speedo CIS Championship with a bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle. The Victoria-hosted Championship saw UBC sweep the team titles, with the T-Bird women capturing their fourth-consecutive and 20th overall title.
