Outside of the main international swimming competitions each year (Worlds, Olympics, etc.), the best and most competitive Open Water races are found in the FINA 10km World Cup Circuit. Jon McKay raced for Canada at the Lac St.
On Day 2 in Winnipeg was the weakest session for PCS before the first splash with no guaranteed second swims on paper. TomChapman came through with a PB in 400 to slide on up to 12th from 28th. All other swims improved rank except one, eliciting improved times for most.
In Time Trial action Michael Schmidt, Hannah Lorette, cracked personal bests in 100m Butterfly.

Day 1 Finals at the RBC Canadian Junior Championships in Winnipeg started off with a bang.
Naeva Scott Bouris swimming in her first ever National Final placed 4th in the 13-14 Girls 800FR and dropped almost 9 seconds off her personal best time.
Sophie Lorette continued to drop time in her 100BF placing 2nd in the B Final with a personal best time, which broke the Girls 15-17 Club Record set back in 2012.

PCS had quite a few swimmers take part in the local swim event that helps to raise money and awareness for those living with MS. The swimmers placed well and showed some of our Open Water practices have been paying off.
1500 meter race results Kate Marcovitz (10) was the 1st place 12 & Under girl in a time of 29:36 Alexis Woo (just started swimming with PCS recently from Water polo) came in 2nd just ahead of Kate in her 15-17 age group in a time of 29:32
The 14 swimmers who took part in the Moses lake meet this summer really enjoyed themselves. The Moses lake summer heat was on reaching temperatures of up to 39C!! This is a really nice start to summer and gives the swimmers a new challenge in the pool to swim without sight lines on the ceiling. Most of our backstroke and IM swimmers did a great job and rarely had any lane rope trouble.
Swimming fast long course this time of year can be tough outdoors but the swimmers continue to show improvements.
In May the Hall of Fame announced its 2018 inductees. Four athletes will be inducted – Dave Calder (Rowing), Rich Harden (Baseball), Alison Murdoch (Golf) and Deb Whitten (Field Hockey). In addition three-time Olympic swimmer Ron Jacks will be honoured in the coaching category for services to swimming, and Ian Lamplugh in the official’s category for baseball. The two builder inductees will be Yeiji Inouye (Judo) and Hugh MacDonald (Multi-sports). Congratulations to all inductees. After the announcement was made, we heard with deep sadness that Yeiji Inouye passed away in June.
Day 1 at Tier 2’s started off with some very strong swims from PCS, in both the prelims and finals session. Hannah Lorette, celebrating her 17th birthday, made her first Junior Canadian Standard in the 200 backstroke with a 2:22.84 in the morning; what a way to start her birthday! The celebrations didn’t stop there though, with Nolan Crisp breaking a club record from 2015 in the 50 back, going a 32.93 and putting his name up on the record board again. In the distance events, Naeva Scott-Bouris smashed the competition, winning the 800 free with an incredible negative split of 10 seconds.
The Final session of the Tier 1 meet in Kelowna ended with another long session but PCS swimmers carried on with their fast swimming. The morning started off with the 200 Medley mixed relay, Followed by the 200 Backstroke. Nolan Crisp was our only scorer, breaking a 10 year old club record held by Ryan Howe in a time of 2:24.89 winning the event by over 5 seconds.
Pacific Coast Swimmers continued to swim well during the 4th session of the Swim BC Tier 1 Championships in Kelowna BC. Nolan Crisp was our first individual event scorer of the session in the boys 11&U 200IM A Final where he finished in 5th place, slightly off his best time from the morning session. Alonso Gutierrez was also in the 200IM and placed 3rd in the B Final for 11th overall and under his best time by over 3 seconds.
