Coach Ron Jacks and a small crew of three swimmers – Ian Mattock, Jacob McKee and Kody Mitchell – travelled to Edmonton to compete at SNC Westerns this past weekend. Congratulations to Ian Mattock, who finished twelfth overall from the 17 & over B-final in both 100 & 200 Breaststroke. Also in the top-16, Kody Mitchell, competing in the 16 & under category, finished just outside A-finals at ninth in the 50 Breastroke in preliminaries; unfortunately there were no B-finals for the younger age group.

Junior Pan Pacific Championships

The Junior Pan Pacific Championships are taking place January 8-12 in Guam, and UVPCS swimmer Nicholas Sinclair is on the Canadian team.

Like the Pan Pacific Championships, there are restrictions on how many swimmers from each country proceed to finals - only three swimmers advance, with a maximum of two in A-finals - so not only must the athletes swim fast in morning heats, but they have to rank top-3 within their country to earn a second swim.

Virtual Western Age Group Meet

Calgary Patriots’ coach Jamie Connors clearly suffers from an excess of curiosity – over the December break he collected results from eight meets at the end of the Fall 2008 cycle and pooled (pun intended) the results to form a “virtual” Western Age Group Championship meet.
