Final Day at Divisionals

PCS went out with a bang today and finished strong through the end of our last session at 2022 Winter Fraser & Island Divisionals. We had 12 top 3 podium finishes today. Our finals session started with 200m breaststroke with Iris Wu placing first with a personal best and provincial qualifying time. Maelle Sanborn placed 5th in that same final with a personal best time. In the 13-14 age category, Tracy Zhao placed 8th overall. On the boy’s side, Nolan Greenwood placed 1st in his 200m breaststroke after a 1st in 100m breaststroke on Saturday! In the 13-14 age category, Makaio McKnight placed 1st with a provincial qualifying time, and Cooper Hunt came 5th.

After PCS polished off 200m breastroke, we had 8 finalists in 100m freestyle. On the girl’s side, Nora Dietsch placed 1st (12&under) & Isabella Meyer finished in 8th overall. Avery Neal placed 4th and Isabelle Wu was first alternate and got the chance to race 100m freestyle again this evening (13-14). On the boy’s side, Sebastian Damian placed 6th, followed shortly by Constantine Tchaouchev who came 7th overall (12&under). Rubin Lee place 6th in the men’s 13-14 age category. Next was 50m backstroke where both Isabelle Wu (13-14) and Constantine Tchaouchev (12&under) placed 7th in their respective events.

We had 3 overall finalists in 100m Butterfly. Nora Dietsch (12&under) placed 1st with a provincial qualifying time. Noah Hicks (13-14) placed 4th with a personal best, and Simon de Rosnay (15&over) placed 2nd in finals.

We finished off the night with 800m freestyle & lots of on deck cheering. Sofia Zibell (10) had a personal best of 11:11.66, making her 800m freestyle the 2nd fastest 10& under time in Canada so far this season. Way to go Sofia!

Nolan Greenwood placed 3rd in his 800m freestyle just shy of a 30 second best time. Cooper Hunt placed 2nd with a personal best, narrowly missing the provincial qualifying time. Makaio McKnight placed 6th overall in the same final. Lastly, Simon de Rosnay placed 1st in the men’s 15& over category with a personal best.

Our 4x100m mixed medley relays went hard this morning with our A-Team & B-Team placing 1st & 2nd in the 12&under category.

What a great meet for all the swimmers involved this weekend! There was so much team spirit, unity, hard racing, and sportmanship throughout the whole meet. Thank you Nanaimo Riptides & Swim BC for hosting this event, and to all the parents, volunteers, and officials who made this possible.

Next Stop: Provincials hosted by us March 10th - 13th. See you there!
