Day 1 at Tier 2’s started off with some very strong swims from PCS, in both the prelims and finals session. Hannah Lorette, celebrating her 17th birthday, made her first Junior Canadian Standard in the 200 backstroke with a 2:22.84 in the morning; what a way to start her birthday! The celebrations didn’t stop there though, with Nolan Crisp breaking a club record from 2015 in the 50 back, going a 32.93 and putting his name up on the record board again. In the distance events, Naeva Scott-Bouris smashed the competition, winning the 800 free with an incredible negative split of 10 seconds. In the 200 freestyle final, the girls led out the night with two 7th place finishes, Allison Ballantyne and Naeva Scott-Bouris. There were also several PCS swimmers cleaning up in the 200 backstroke; Hana Edwards coming in 2nd , Hannah Lorette 4th in the girls final, and on the boys side Jacob Rambo came in 2nd, touching with a 2:10.00, Thomas Chapman, 5th , and Anthony Gutierrez coming in 7th . In the 100 breaststroke, Michael Schmidt came into the boys final strong, finishing 1st with a time of 1:07. At the end of finals, the highly anticipated 4x50 Medley relays didn’t disappoint, with the 14&U girls fighting to a fourth place spot, the 18&U girls coming in 5th , and the 15&U boys coming in 1st . A great day of racing for our swimmers at Saanich Commonwealth, setting the tone for the rest of the meet. The Tier 2 Provincial Swimming Competition continues Saturday and Sunday at Saanich Commonwealth pool.
