Wild night in Tucson!! Well it was hot and wild in Tucson tonight. The night started off over 105 degrees so even getting up on the blocks was kind of hot on the feet.
First swim of the night was Sydney Meldrum swimming in the B-Final of the 200 Fly dropping a second from the a.m. swim. Grace MacDonald was up next in the A-Final and also dropping time off her a.m. swim with a 2:27.18 to place 6th. Up next was Lily Chen and Grace in the B-Final of the 50 Free where Lily placed 7th, and Grace went faster again for 3rd in 27.78. Within 8 minutes they were both back in the pool for the 100 Backstroke. With a few armswings and a bit of self encouragement, the B-Final went alright with Grace going better again and winning the B-Final in 1:07.78, her best time by .3. Grace had swum 200 Fly, 50 Free, and 100 Back in a space of 35 minutes each faster than the a.m. swims!
Next up was the 200 Breaststroke where Sydney was back in the pool for the B-Final and dropped a second off the a.m. swim with a good solid last 50. Laura Rincon swam in the A-Final placing 8th. Then came the 400 Free where Jane Maycock and Lily Chen had a little trouble getting going in the Tucson heat/heats. They both swam better at night in the C-Final with Jane winning that Final and dropping 7 seconds off her a.m. swim.
The final event of a quick Saturday p.m. session was the 4 x 200 Free Relay where Grace, Lily, Kali Lancaster, and Jane swam to a silver medal!!
The team sits in 5th place currently on the women’s team scores. The meet continues one more day.
