2024 Alberta Provincial proved sucessful for all of our swimmers who attended.
Ada Chen and Elodie Chernenkoff placed 1st and 2nd in the 11&U Girls 200 Freestyle both touching the wall in personal best times. Up next in the 12 year old age group was Averie Hill who also won gold and bested her personal best time by 2 seconds. Katie McLaren and Lucia White also made the 12 year old A final and placed 7th and 8th respectively. Owen Schroeder kept the ball rolling with a 5th place finish in the Boys 12&U 200FR A Final which was slightly over his best time he established this morning by 5.5 seconds. In the Boys 13 year old age group Evan Eide swam to a personal best time by .65 and a 4th place finish while teammate Noah Zhang placed 7th. In the B Final of the 13 year old 200FR Xavier Huculak Payne maintained his #1 seed and was slightly off his best time he set this morning in prelims. Brandon Zhang was our lone entrant in the Boys 15 year old age group A Final and placed 10th which was slightly off his best time he set this morning. Ada Chen was back to her winning ways in the 11&U 50FL with a gold medal performance and a new best time by over half a second. Evan Eide & Xavier Huculak Payne were both back in action in the Boys 50FL where Evan earned silver and Xavier tied for 3rd. Tamba Boamah who is new to the team this season from Ghana placed 9th with a best time performance.
In the Boys 16&O age group Makaio McKnight cracked the 28 second barrier for the first time and placed 4th in the B final which was a personal best time by over a half second for the day. The last event on night one was the 400IM which included 9 UVPCS athletes. In the 11&U Girls A Final Elodie Chernenkoff pulled ahead on the Freestyle leg to win gold in a new best time by 4 seconds. In the 12 year old Girls A Final Averie Hill netted her second gold medal of the night. Katie McLaren who battled her way back over the last half of the race earned herself the bronze medal in a new best time by 4 seconds. Lucia White competed in the 400IM preliminary session moved up to 8th overall and also dropped a whopping 10 seconds off her previous best time. In the boys 15 year old age group A Final Brandon Zhang equaled his ranking going into the competition with a 4th place finish while teammate Constantine Tchaouchev who was ranked 5th going into the competition stayed in 5th place.
In the Boys 16&over event Ethan Woo placed 5th. The Final night of the Alberta Provincial Championships in Edmonton started off with the 1500FR.
Brandon Zhang who swam in the preliminaries moved up 3 spots to win the bronze medal in a personal best time by over 24 seconds while teammate Constantine Tchaouchev placed 5th. Ada Chen competing in the Girls 11&U 100FL won gold by over 5 seconds and dropped nearly 2.5 seconds off her previous best time. In the Boys 12&U category Owen Schroeder placed 8 and just slightly over the time he set in the prelims. In the Boys 13yr age group UVPCS almost had the first sweep of the podium with Even Eide winning gold, Xavier Huculak Payne claiming the silver and Noah Zhang placing 4th. All 3 boys were well under their previous best times. Racing in the Boys 16&O category B Final was Ethan Woo who placed 7th and Makaio McKnight who placed 9th. In the Girls 12yr 200BR Averie Hill not only dropped 2 seconds off her best time but also moved up 2 places winning the silver medal. Averie won a medal of each colour in the Breastroke. Also in the 12yr 200BR A Final was teammate Katie McLaren who won the bronze medal also in a personal best time. Ethan Woo was the only UVPCS boy entrant in the 200BR and placed 6th in the Championship Final. In the Girls 12yr 50FR A Final Lucia White improved by .68 to place 8th overall. In the Girls 13yr 50FR Eden Blaind placed 7 and improved by .14 and by 3 spots throughout the day. In the Boys 13yr Championship Final UVPCS had the chance for another opportunity to sweep the podium. Evan Eide won the gold in a personal best time, Noah Zhang placed 4th which was slightly slower than his best time he established in prelims and Xavier Huculak Payne placed 7th, also in a new best time. Tamba Boamah was the only Boy in the 14yr 50FR Championship Final from UVPCS and placed 4th and only a mere .06 seconds off 3rd. 0.45 seconds separated 1st to 6th. In the final women’s event of the competition Ada Chen and Elodie Chernenkoff in the 11&U 200IM swam to a 1-2 finish. Ada won the gold in a best time by over 5 seconds and Elodie took off three quarters of a second. In the Girls 12&U 200IM UVPCS had yet again another chance to sweep the podium. Averie Hill won the bronze medal, Katie McLaren placed 5th and Lucia White placed 10th In the Boys 12&U 200IM Owen Schroeder placed 7th bettering his preliminary time by almost 3 seconds. In the Boys 13yr 200IM Noah Zhang placed 4th. In the Boys 15yr 200IM Constantine Tchaouchev placed 6th improving upon his preliminary performance by over 5 seconds and Brandon Zhang placed 7th. The final swimmer of the weekend was Makaio McKnight who placed 9th in the Boys 16&O 200IM. After the competition concluded aggregate winners were announced. To be in the running for an aggregate award you had to place in the top 3, where Ada Chen claimed te girl's 12&under aggregate award.
