3rd day with 3 new records at U-Sports

The last and final day of 2022 U-Sport Championships proved sucessful for the Vikes Swimmers with 3 additional school records, to total of 12 new Vikes records set this competition and one bronze medal for Sophie Tarrant in 200m breaststroke. The Vikes finished the morning prelims with three bids to the A Finals, four to the B Finals, and two to the C Finals on the final day of racing.

Reaching the A Final in her third breaststroke event of the meet, Sophie Tarrant finished fourth in the 50 breast prelims with a time of 32.11. With the qualification, Tarrant has contended for medals in all the breaststroke events at both the Canada West and U SPORTS championships. Adding a second A Final appearance to her evening docket, Tarrant took seventh in the 200 IM prelims, touching the wall in 2:19.05.

Closing out his first season as a Vike with a school record, Maxwell Fang took fourth in the 100 free C Final with a time of 50.30, surpassing Brett Zollen's time of 50.42 set Dec. 4, 2015.

Setting a new school record in the 50 breast A Final, Tarrant clocked in at 31.90 to surpass teammate Jamie Hellard's time of 32.00 set Nov. 22, 2019. The Vikes record time finished fifth overall in the final.

Matching her prelims finish in the 200 back A Final, Lauren Crisp finished fourth overall, dropping nearly one and a half seconds off her prelims time to finish in 2:10.06. Closing out his first season as a Vike with a school record, Maxwell Fang took fourth in the 100 free C Final with a time of 50.30, surpassing Brett Zollen's time of 50.42 set Dec. 4, 2015. Wrapping the Vikes' A Final appearances, Tarrant dropped almost two seconds and improved one spot from her prelims swim in the 200 IM, taking sixth at 2:17.75. Winning the 200 IM B Final, Jacob Rambo touched the wall in 2:01.32. His time beat two A Final swims.

Narrowly missing the podium at the first U SPORTS Championships of his career, William Risk finished fourth in the 1500m Free with a time of 15:20.54. Ending the meet with one final new school record entry, the foursome of Rambo, Mckervill, Hemeon and Fang took sixth in the 4x100 medley relay with a time of 3:38.75, lowering the previous Vikes standard of 3:42.91 set Nov. 23, 2018.

As teams, both the men's and women's sides finished sixth overall.

What an exciting and memorable weekend for the Vikes Swimmers. Their teamwork, resilience, and ability to stick together showed sucesses across the board. A fantastic closing of 12 school records, and 1 podium place.
